How to Choose the Right Curtains for Window Decoration

When choosing curtains, it is important to understand what tasks you want to solve. The light in the room is affected not only by the number of layers of fabric but the density and design of the curtain itself. You can choose curtains made of opaque fabric (blackout) – these protect the room from overheating, help organize blackouts during daytime sleep, or watch movies without glare on the screen.

Background roman blinds and roller blinds create diffused light, covering only part of the windows. Curtains made of cotton let in sunlight even when closed, also creating a pleasantly diffused light.

The best look curtains on the floor. The denser the fabric, the longer the curtains should be and the more interesting the window looks. However, it is important not only the length of the curtains but also the height. The room seems even higher if the curtains go beyond the window and start under the ceiling.

How to choose curtains by color

Curtains should not match the rest of the textiles in the room – upholstered furniture, bedspreads. They can be one or two tones darker or lighter than the color of the walls. You can create a contrasting combination: for example, curtains of deep blue color, and the walls – olive color.

A universal option – curtains of neutral beige or gray color. Such textiles always have a beautiful and concise look. Warm tones visually enlarge the window. Cold shades create a feeling of coolness and are suitable for rooms that face the sunny side. You can also use two-tone curtains – they go well with the range of any room.

Curtains for different rooms

For the bedroom, choose curtains of calmer and neutral shades – they will create a quiet cozy atmosphere. You can use one of the shades of the bed cover. Color, pattern, a motif can resonate – but this connection should not be too intrusive.

Deep monochrome or soft pastel shades will be suitable for a drawing-room. Matte thick curtain fabrics should be preferred.

Obviously, for the kitchen, you need to choose not only beautiful but also practical and functional curtains. They should be sewn from a durable material that is easy to wash.

How to use curtains in the interior

With the help of curtains, you can balance the asymmetrical window openings on the wall, visually soften the corners. You can also put the necessary emphasis or supplement the one that is already in the interior.

Curtains can be a decoration not only for windows. There are interesting interiors where curtains are used as partitions for rooms. This has been a popular design trend for the last two years.

A curtain can separate the kitchen space from the living room. This is very convenient when guests come and there is no separate room for them – you can close the kitchen with a curtain. This is an inexpensive solution, the curtain can always be quickly removed. The only downside – soundproofing.

Light curtains made of translucent fabric always have a neutral look. They are usually combined with heavier curtains made of different fabrics that partially transmit sunlight.

Tulle gives an intermediate effect – smoothes the transition from the curtain to the window, creates a light veil, making the design much softer. The combination of tulle with a curtain is often used in the main rooms – in studios, living rooms, home offices, and children’s rooms.
