Different Locks And Their Applications

Different Locks And Their ApplicationsOne of the main criteria for choosing a door lock is the degree of its reliability. In today’s market, products of this category are presented in a wide range. To purchase products are available that differ by the principle of installing and locking the door, the size and a number of other parameters.

Main types of door locks

Manufacturers produce locks of the following types:

  • Padlocks;
  • Overhead locks;
  • Mortise locks.

Padlocks

The product is a lock that hangs on a pair of hinges. One of the advantages of padlocks is low cost. If we talk about reliability, then its level in this case is very low: it is enough for an attacker to insert a mount in the latch of the locking mechanism and make some effort to penetrate inside the enclosed space. Usually, padlocks are used to lock sheds, where, as a rule, no valuables are stored.

Overhead locks

The option is far from the best. The main advantages of overhead locks are that they are quite easy to assemble, and during the installation the door leaf is not damaged. As for the shortcomings, first of all this is a low degree of reliability, since the door can be easily knocked out. Another disadvantage is not a very attractive design.

Mortise locks

Locking products of the mortise type are classified as more reliable. It’s just that the attacker will not be able to open the lock. If an alarm is installed on the site, there is a high chance that as long as the thief tries to open the door, the police squad comes in time. Another advantage: the “drowned” inside the door leaf lock in no way spoil the interior of the room. Mortise products are installed on both doors made of wood and metal.

Whether the lock can become an effective barrier on the path of trying to get inside the attacker, depends on the features of the locking mechanism of the product.

All the existing door locks by the type of the locking mechanism can be divided into chubb detector lock, pin tumbler lock and smart locks.

Chubb detector lock

These locks are considered the most reliable. Their design is quite simple. The locking part of such a lock – the lever – can lock the doors in the closed position. The number of these elements depends on the invulnerability of the door locks for burglary and master keys. To buy a door-door lock means to provide security for your home. The only drawback of the door locks of this type is their considerable width, which can complicate the installation of the device in metal doors.

Pin tumbler lock

In cylinder locks there is a built-in core in the form of a cylinder (the so-called “larva”). It contains about six sovald, therefore, to buy locks with a cylinder mechanism means to buy a reliable system of locks for their metal doors. However, for mechanical stability (from unscrewing and knocking out) these locks will need to be strengthened. To this end, use steel sheets and special pads. To improve strength, the core of the lock is usually tried to be made of strong metals and alloys.

Smart Locks

Smart Locks are an absolutely different group of door locks that do not use keys. To identify the host, the system uses fingerprints, retinal scan or digital code. Locks door digital operate on the principle of intercom. On the digital panel, dial a special code and rotate the key, then the door will open. In the event that there is no current in the network, there is a battery – on it the lock can last for two days. When the battery is locked in the lock, the metal doors can only be opened with a key. Sometimes such doors do not have a digital panel installed – the manufacturer puts a chip key, or an eye retina scanner, or a fingerprint reader system.
